Thank you.
The last 8 months have been a bit of a surreal experience for me. I made the extremely hard decision to leave what seemed to be a fantastic job that wasn’t a fantastic fit for my life anymore. I took a new job closer to home and doing so bought back some of my time. Ive learned my way around a coffee shop, learning to roast coffee and make some truly fantastic drinks. All of this left me with an extra 10 hours week that I didn’t previously have. not being one to waste time or sit still for that matter, I quickly filled that time making me busier than before.
So you’re asking yourself… well Sam what the hell have you been doing?
I very quickly missed having access to an unbelievable shop full of tools and realized that I needed to start carving out a shop of my own. at the end of the summer I began by cleaning and painting the walls and floor of my 300 sq ft. one car garage and reluctantly pulling my Mini Cooper out of the garage for what will likely be here last time sleeping inside for the foreseeable future.
I filmed that floor refinishing project with no real plans of doing anything with it but it just felt right to try to make a video about it. Summer turned to fall, fall turned to winter, and around December I finally decided to try to piece that project together into something watchable. I published that video with the expectation of getting a few hundred views, As expected from a channel that only had a few hundred subscribers mostly on accident.
That video “exploded” in views getting tens of hundreds a views in the first few days, then making a quantum leap to 40,000 views in the first week. With that one click of the upload button, I woke up a few weeks later to something that resembled a “real” YouTube channel.
In early January I was reminded of that fact that I had entered the lottery for a bucket list item of mine. I was selected to participate in the Leadville 100 mile ultramarathon this August in Leadville, Colorado. many of my days are spent leaving my day job at the coffee shop, only to stop short on my commute home to run some trails in the park that stands between the shop and my home. This is a very exciting opportunity that has taken up a lot of time and mental bandwidth as I plan and train for the physically hardest project of my life.
At the time of this writing Im about to crest over 16,000 subscribers and recently crossed 250,000 Channel views. The response to my new venture back into YouTube as been overwhelmingly positive. I wasn’t exactly planning to jump back in front of the camera, but you guys seemed to have a different idea. All of this is to Say THANK YOU! I don’t share any of this to brag but only to express my gratitude to each an everyone of you that’s taken time out of your life, and shown and interest in what i’m doing.
I’ve got lots of big ideas on where the Sam Green Maker thing might be able to take us. but all I will say for now is. This is only the beginning.
May we all be so lucky to have people in our corner, cheering us on. I encourage you to dream big and take that first step toward something you want to do.
